# Skills

Every Cukie has **five core skills** that shape its performance in different game activities:

* Miner
* Engineer
* Farmer
* Gatherer
* Cook

As your Cukie performs tasks related to a skill, it earns **experience points**. Once enough experience is gained, the Cukie can **level up** that skill using [**skill gems**](/cukies-world-whitepaper/6.-how-to-play/skill-gems.md).

Each new level enhances the Cukie’s abilities, unlocking **new tools**, improving **resource gathering**, or enabling more **advanced construction**, among other perks.\

Skills can be developed **up to** **level 5**, but not every Cukie can master them all. A Cukie’s **generation and rarity** determine how many total **skill points** it can develop, and that’s part of the strategy!

Will you **specialize** your Cukie in one discipline to become an expert, or make it **versatile** by developing multiple skills at once? **Choose wisely before upgrading!**
